Laptop – “First Aid” if you get water on it !

If you accidentally spill some liquid on your laptop, you need to IMMEDIATELY disconnect it from any power by:-

  • removing the mains lead from the laptop
  • removing the battery

… shown in the 2 pictures below:-



You should then put it upside down, in a warm place, to allow as much water to exit and the remainder to dry for at least 24 hours. (Using a fan to speed up the process isn’t recommended)

If the liquid is just water, your laptop may start working again (other fluids are more likely to need a specialist to examine it – there are steps they can take to clean the components if they’re not damaged).
