Do you have a Computer Recovery Pack to hand ?
Even for a brand new computer I strongly recommend you have this, because on occasion Windows can become severely corrupt due to a virus, spyware – or even a faulty hard drive (this happened to one of my client’s recently).
Even with the expert assistance of PC GP, there are times when the best way (or perhaps the only way) to continue using it smoothly is to wipe or replace the hard disk and then re-install Windows as well as all of your programs – before restoring or re-setting up your files (and your Outlook mailbox if used).
If you don’t have a “Computer Recovery Pack”, it may be impossible to complete this.
So I have prepared a guide in PDF format which can be viewed by clicking on the link below

Urgent Advice for users of web-based email (Yahoo, Hotmail, Gmail, etc )
Have you recently made a backup copy of your address book / contacts onto your own computer ?
If not, you should make this an urgent task ! It should only take 10 minutes
Your web-based account could, without your knowledge and at any time, be “hacked into” by a fraudster who’s stolen, cracked or simply guessed your logon password …. especially if you have a simple password or one that isn’t regularly changed.
Just in the last few months, this has happened to at least 3 of my clients , in one case over 500 contacts were stolen by the hacker based in Nigeria. Fortunately Yahoo were able to restore a backup copy of his contacts as he realised quickly and turned to me for expert assistance.
I plan to publish a simple tutorial to help you perform this simple task (and change your password) using the most popular webmail services.
In the meantime, please do contact me for assistance.

Your computer’s RAM (memory)
For desktop computers, memory chips ( RAM) have 3 main types (depending on how old your computer is:-
- DDR (used inside computers which are now very old)
- DDR2 (most computers will have this type)
- DDR3 (the newest type, now widely used)
This picture shows the (subtle) differences between 2 of the types
– meaning that the wrong one won’t even fit !
To find out which are inside your own desktop computer, obtain a FREE report by running a scan at http://www.crucial.com/uk/systemscanner/
Crucial’s memory report will tell you:
- what type of memory your computer uses
- what speed of memory is used
- how many memory card slots your computer has – and if any are free
- the maximum amount of memory your computer can take
